MANTHEY RACING PORSCHE LEADS HANKOOK 24H DUBAI AFTER TWO HOURS
Pole sitter Black Falcon down to fourth
Dubai, UAE, 13 January 2017: After two hours of racing at Dubai Autodrome the #12 Porsche 991 GT3 R (Otto Klohs/Sven Müller/Matteo Cairoli/Jochen Krumbach) of Manthey Racing leads the 2017 Hankook 24H Dubai.
The veteran team of Black Falcon looked to be back in winning form as Dutch driver Jeroen Bleekemolen put the team on the right track early on by securing pole position in qualifying with a best lap of 1m57.705s.
Bleekemolen nabbed pole behind the wheel of the #2 Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 (Khaled Al Qubaisi/Jeroen Bleekemolen/Patrick Assenheimer/Manuel Metzger). The Mercedes-AMG GT3s of Black Falcon teams have enjoyed considerable success in the Hankook 24H Dubai, winning the race in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The 24 hour endurance race rumbled into action at 14.00 on Friday (13 January) when the UAE flag was waved and 95 cars stormed down the main straight at Dubai Autodrome with the Black Falcon Mercedes in the lead.
From sixth on the grid the Manthey Racing Porsche 991 GT3 R rocketed off the line and passed two cars before the first corner. Lap after lap the charge continued on and, after two hours of racing, the Porsche climbed up to the frontrunner position.
Black Falcon experienced quite the opposite, dropping positions down to fourth. However, with almost 22 long hours yet to go, the team is still very much in the hunt.
The Porsche marque is doing well early on, with another Porsche 991 GT3 R, of Herberth Motorsport currently in second place. A Lamborghini Huracán GT3 from GRT Grasser Racing Team has taken the third position.
The Hankook 24H Dubai will run through the night and finish at 14.00 on Saturday (14 January).
